2025 Kentucky Derby Profile & Predictions: Luxor Cafe

  • Name: Luxor Cafe
  • Post Position: 7
  • Trainer: Noriyuki Hori
  • Jockey: João Moreira
  • Odds: 15-1

Luxor Cafe comes in with the baggage of nearly a decade of horses coming from the Japanese circuit and failing to make the jump successfully. He has not raced American horses yet, but his isn’t the typical story from the Nippon path.

He is the son of Triple Crown legend American Pharoah and was bred in Versailles, Kentucky, at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud. He may be making his US debut, but he is American-made with Royal bloodlines. Coolmore is a premier name in horse breeding and Ashford Stud is home to numerous generational sires including the aforementioned American Pharaoh and his fellow Triple Crown winner, Justify.

Don't let the location of Luxor Cafe's body of work fool you, he is cut from championship cloth. He may not win but he will hit the board.
