When an injury forced one of the early contenders, Tappan Street, to top tap out, a door opened for Render Judgement to join the field. His track record is not too impressive,. In seven career races he's had one win, two second place finishes and one third. His owner was hesitant about entering Render Judgement when the opportunity presented itself.

He ultimately decided to do so as a tribute to the late Toby Keith. The country music star was a part-owner and had always wanted to enter a horse into the Derby. However, Render Judgement has not won in his last five starts and is one of the slowest horses in the race.
