2025 PGA Championship Odds, Picks & Predictions: Byeong Hun An

Rory McIlroy's thrilling victory at The Masters last month set up some compelling storylines for the second major of the season, the 2025 PGA Championship, which will be played this week at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

McIlroy completed the career grand slam with his win at Augusta. If he wins again this week, he'll be halfway to a true grand slam. McIlroy has fared well at Quail Hollow throughout his career, having won four tournaments there. It's a course that favors big hitters — right up McIlroy's alley.

But McIlroy isn't even the favorite this week. That would be Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world. Scheffler cruised to an eight-shot victory at his most recent event, the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Will golf fans be treated to a duel between McIlroy and Scheffler? Or will other top players intervene? Defending PGA champ Xander Schauffele is certainly capable of repeating. Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg have been hot lately. LIV Tour star Bryson DeChambeau has been frisky in recent majors, and other LIV players — Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Tyrrell Hatton and others — could contend.

Course History

Byeong Hun An played in the PGA Championship when it was at Quail Hollow in 2017, finishing T-28. He has also played Quail Hollow several times in the Wells Fargo Championship.

While he has an overall history of struggling on the course (missed the cut in 2021 and 2023), he finished third in 2024 (-9). An’s history in the PGA Championship has not been great. He finished T-43 last year and missed the cut in three of his seven appearances from 2015 to 2021.

Recent Form

An has made the cut in 10 out of 13 tournaments he has entered with a top-25 finish in four and a top-10 finish in one (Arnold Palmer Invitational, T-8). He finished T-34 last weekend at the Truist Championship, T-60 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson the week before and T-38 at RBC Heritage.

Betting Outlook: 2025 PGA Championship Predictions

An does not seem to play his best golf at the majors. Since 2020, he has played in 11 majors, failed to make the cut three times and finished in the top 20 twice (T-16 at the Masters and T-13 at the Open Championship last year).

There is nothing about An that makes me think he'll make the cut this weekend.
